Treatment Conditions & Approaches
I believe therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Each person’s experiences, challenges, and goals are unique, which is why I take an integrative, personalised approach to treatment. Rather than applying a single method, I work collaboratively with you, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapies to find what works best for your needs.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to compassion, understanding, and creating a safe, supportive space where you feel truly heard and valued. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma, my goal is to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognise unhelpful patterns, and build healthier ways of coping.

Specialising in Trauma, Anxiety & Depression Treatment
If you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, low mood, obsessive thoughts or the lasting effects of difficult life experiences, you're not alone. I provide online CBT and EMDR therapy for adults in York & across the UK, helping people overcome a wide range of emotional difficulties including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, OCD, phobias, stress, burnout and low self-esteem.
As a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with 20 years' experience working for the NHS; The Retreat in York; BUPA and private practice, and an EMDR Practitioner since 2018, I have supported hundreds of people to make meaningful and lasting changes. Every therapy plan is tailored to your individual needs, drawing on evidence-based therapies recommended by NICE, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).
Whether your difficulties have developed recently or have been affecting you for many years, therapy can help you understand what's keeping them going and develop the skills and confidence to move forward.
Specialist Trauma Therapy with EMDR
Trauma is one of my specialist areas. Alongside CBT, I have extensive experience using EMDR to help people recover from traumatic experiences and reduce the emotional impact of distressing memories.
Trauma isn't always caused by one major event. It can develop following childhood emotional neglect, bullying, abuse, domestic violence, medical experiences, workplace trauma, relationship difficulties or repeated stressful experiences. Many people continue to experience the effects long after the events have ended, often without recognising that trauma may be playing a role.
Trauma can affect many areas of life, leading to symptoms such as anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, hypervigilance, shame, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties or feeling constantly on edge. EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer feel as distressing or intrusive.
I regularly work with adults experiencing PTSD, Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), developmental trauma and other trauma-related difficulties, always working at a pace that feels safe, collaborative and manageable.
Effective Therapy for Anxiety & Depression
Many people seek therapy because they feel overwhelmed by constant worry, overthinking, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts or persistent low mood. Others struggle with perfectionism, self-criticism, people-pleasing or burnout, which can leave them feeling emotionally exhausted and stuck.
CBT is the recommended first-line psychological treatment for many common mental health difficulties, and I regularly support people experiencing:
-
Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
-
Panic attacks and panic disorder
-
Social anxiety
-
Health anxiety
-
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
-
Specific phobias
-
Depression and persistent low mood
-
Stress and burnout
-
Low self-esteem and self-criticism
-
Perfectionism
-
Emotional regulation difficulties
You don't need to have a diagnosis before seeking therapy. Many of my clients simply know that they're struggling. They may find themselves constantly worrying, avoiding situations, replaying conversations, feeling emotionally overwhelmed, doubting themselves, or noticing that past experiences continue to affect their relationships, confidence or everyday life.
Together we'll develop a shared understanding of your difficulties, identify the patterns that are keeping them going, and create a personalised treatment plan using evidence-based approaches that fit your goals. My aim is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to help you build lasting emotional wellbeing and the confidence to live the life you want.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. My approach combine 20 years of clinical experience with warmth, compassion and evidence-based practice. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I integrate CBT, EMDR and other therapeutic models to create treatment that is tailored specifically to you.
Whether you're looking for support with anxiety, depression or trauma, we'll work together to understand your experiences, develop practical strategies for change and help you move towards a calmer, more fulfilling life.
Flexible Therapy Options: Online & Face-to-Face
I offer both online and face-to-face therapy at a central York location, allowing you to choose the format that best suits your needs.
Online therapy provides a convenient and flexible way to access evidence-based psychological support from wherever you are in the UK, while face-to-face sessions may be helpful for those who prefer the experience of meeting in person.
The majority of my work is delivered online, with a small number of face-to-face appointments available in York depending on availability.
